With fond memories, we remember LAAC’s Jorge Guevara

We recently learned of the passing of Jorge Guevara, a longtime LAAC employee and squash advocate. In addition to stringing countless squash rackets, Jorge was the Handball Coordinator for LAAC’s Handball Court Fit Class during the 1980’s! In a 2018 piece for Mercury: The Official Publication of the Los Angeles Athletic Club, a member wrote about his experience taking a handball class taught by Jorge: “It dawn(ed) on me how special this place is. (Also, how good of a player Jorge is. He can play handball with his feet.) You need a lot of things to play the game well: hand-eye coordination, speed, strategy, and possibly dead nerve endings in your hands.” SoCal Squash Treasurer Dave Jung remarked with affection: “He was such a sweet, eccentric, and joyful person. Totally unique and now back to heaven. He will be greatly missed.
